Winter melon soup (冬瓜汤 dōng guā tāng)

It’s winter here and many of us started to feel under the weather. Another dish that reminds me of home is winter melon soup (dong gua tang). It is originally from China, but I knew this dish when I was back in Indonesia, since my mom used to cook this at home. It is the best way to warm up during rainy days. Enjoy.. =)

Serving: 3-4

Total Time: 30 minutes

1 kg           Winter melon, take off the skin, cut into chunk about 1-1,5 cm

150 g          Minced pork, add a pinch of salt and pepper

1 cm          Ginger, sliced

5                Garlic, crushed

1/2 tbsp    Dried shrimp

1 tbsp       Goji berries

2 tbsp       Light soy sauce

1,5 l           Water

Salt to taste

  • Add ginger, garlic, dried shrimp, goji berries into the water. Cook until it’s boiling.
  • In a boiled water, add in the winter melon. With a small spoon, take little by little the minced pork and throw into the soup. Zou can also make small meat balls if you like.
