Even though I have never been to Korea before, I miss Korean food. When I used to live in Beijing, Korean food and restaurants were very much reachable by foot from where I lived. Back then I loved going to Korean BBQ Restaurant, even I knew I had to wash my hair as soon as I am back home… 🙂
So, this recipe is inspired by Korean BBQ style but without having to use BBQ pan. You can use a normal pan if you don’t have a grill at home. The key here is the marinate period. The longer you marinate the stronger it tastes. You can also prepare the day before and leave it overnight. In this recipe, I marinated it for about 3 hours and it was pretty good as well. I hope you enjoy it and happy cooking! 🙂

Cooking time: 20 minutes
Marinate: at least 30 minutes, best overnight
Servings: 2
INGREDIENTS
600 g Pork belly (6 slices)
1 tbsp Korean spicy paste
2 tbsp Soy sauce
2 tsp Brown sugar
1 tsp Sesame oil
2 tsp Garlic, minced
1 tsp Ginger, minced
2 tbsp Vegetable oil for frying
GARNISH
Garlic, sliced
Spring onion
Salad/Cucumber/any fresh vegies
DIRECTION
- Prepare the slices of pork belly by cutting the edge of the skin. The skin can be hard to eat.
- Place the pork belly in a container and marinate with the all the ingredients above. Close the container and leave it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat up a pan with 1-2 tbsp vegetable oil on medium-high. Place the pork belly onto the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes for each side. Check the pork belly every now and then, make sure it doesn’t get burn.
- Serve with rice and garnish with fresh sliced garlic, spring onion, and fresh salad/cucumber/any vegies you have at home.
